The Traditional Karuna Reiki Attunements

Karuna is typically only taught to Usui Reiki Master practitioners. There are four levels of Karuna instruction. There are four levels of mastery in this system: two for practitioners and two for masters. Practitioners and masters alike use the same two attunements.

The first four symbols of the Karuna I attunement have been taught (Zonar, Halu, Harth, and Rama). This attunement is intended to be a practitioner attunement of level I.

The attunement is given using the second four symbols in Karuna Level II (Gnosa, Kriya, Shanti, Iava). It is intended to be an attunement for a Karuna II practitioner.

You repeat the Karuna Level I attunement to make it a Karuna Masters Attunement in Karuna Masters Level I (Level III). After receiving the Level I attunement, the student learns how to perform the Level I practitioner attunement.

That's why in level four of the Karuna II attunement, the Master attunement is given (repeated). How to attune to all Karuna levels is taught to Master Initiate. The attunements can now be practiced. Some Karuna Ki practitioners prefer traditional Karuna Reiki attunements.

Traditional Karuna Reiki Attunements

• Create two symbols for yourself: the Usui Master Symbol (top) and the Usui Power Symbol (bottom). While doing this, you should gently clap your palms together three times while mentally repeating the name of each symbol three times: "DYE-KO MEE-OH" for the Usui Master Symbol; and "CHO-KOO-RAY" for the Usui Power Symbol. In the space in front of you, visualize and draw the Usui Power Symbol starting above and in front of your head, down the front of your body. Think of the symbol's pronunciation, " CHO-KOORAY," three times as you do this.
• Use the Usui Power Symbol to visualize and draw a Reiki symbol in front of your Solar Plexus, Throat, Forehead, and the top of your head. While doing this, mentally recite the symbol's name three times: "CHO-KOO-RAY" pronunciation.
• Allow the Usui Power Symbol's energy to fill and cleanse the room by drawing the symbol out in the air. While doing this, mentally recite the symbol's name three times: "CHO-KOO-RAY" pronunciation.
• Using the Usui Mental/Emotional Symbol, draw it in the air before you, and imagine it filling the room. Recite the symbol's name three times in your head as you do this.
• To clear the space, send the healing energy of the Usui Distant-Healing Symbol out into the air in front of you. It's a good idea to mentally repeat the symbol's name three times as you do this.
• To clear the space, visualize and draw the Usui Master Symbol in the air in front of you. While doing this, mentally recite the symbol's name three times: "DYE-KO-MEE-OH" pronunciation.
• Focus on receiving a permanent attunement to Reiki Master Level for whoever sits in that chair. Standing behind the person, you place one hand on each of their shoulders to establish contact and rapport with them, yourself, and the Reiki energy itself.
• After a few moments, ask the person to raise their hands in a prayer position above their heads and hold them there. Take their hands in yours and hold them gently.
• Visualize the Usui Master Symbol being exhaled with your breath and entering their hands, the base of their skull, and settling in their hands. Gently tap their head once on top of their head while mentally repeating "DYE-KO-MEE-OH," then tap their side of their head, and finally tap the base of their skull. Afterward, remove one of your hands from their hands and gently tap the top of their head while mentally repeating "DYE-KO-MEE-OH." Gently clasp each other's hands in prayer as you return your hand to your own.
• For the other three Usui symbols, repeat the same breathing, visualization, hand-tapping, and mental symbol-name repeating technique. Afterward, return the person's hands, still in prayer position, to the front of their body in front of their heart.
• Gently grab the person's hands and bring them toward you until they are about a foot or so away from their body, and then open them and hold them open, palms up, in one of your own hands.
• Open both hands and visualize and draw the Usui Master Symbol on them. Slowly sink the symbol into each hand until it rests in the middle of each one. Repeat the Usui Master Symbol's name three times as you gently clap onto their palms.
• As you do for the Usui Distant-Healing and Usui Power Symbols, use the same combination of visualization, hand tapping, and mental repetition of the symbols' names.
• To finish the procedure, gently clasp their hands between yours; take a deep breath; and then gently exhale onto the front of their body in a sweeping motion, starting at their hands, moving up to the top of their head; then back down, over their hands, back to the hands. Afterward, repeat the process with your other hand.
• Remove your hands from theirs and return theirs to the position where they held them in front of their heart.
• Take a step back, place your hands on their shoulders, and move your thumbs to their skull's base to get their attention. Achieve a permanent connection to the Reiki energy by visualizing a door with the Usui Power Symbol on it, closing and locking on the back of their head, and affirming mentally that the attunement is now complete and permanent.
• Visualize a red point of light at the base of their spine and affirm that the person (you can mentally state their name) is now a perfectly permanently-attuned and successful Reiki master/teacher. Place your hands flat on their shoulders and look down through the top of their head.
• The attunement is complete, and you may now open your eyes as you walk around to face the person. Greeting them as they open their eyes, kneel and pray for them to find peace.

Conclusion

Even though some consider Karuna Reiki to be a natural progression for Reiki practitioners, it is not required by any means.

Take this step at your own pace, and don't rush into making a decision. Whenever the time is right, you'll know it.
