Important Things Included In Reiki Master Training
There are some practical things included in Reiki Master training. The training of some Masters is broken up into multiple stages. Students are taught and attuned to the Usui Master Symbol and a few practices during the first session (typically one day), after which they can refer to themselves as "Master Practitioners." Before a two-day Reiki Master training session, students are taught and allowed to practice the attunement processes at all three Reiki levels in this two-day Advanced Reiki Training (ART).
Another Master Symbol with a four-syllable Japanese mantra and an Energy symbol with a three-syllable English mantra (although both appear to be from a Tibetan source) are frequently included in this final level, which is sometimes referred to as "Master/Teacher." The students are tuned into these symbols. Although these symbols were never part of the original Usui Reiki Ryoho, many Masters refer to them as the "Reiki Master attunement. The three levels of Reiki teaching are just briefly discussed in these quick sessions, with no time allotted for practice.
Others offer more in-depth training, with the added benefit of letting you practice your teaching abilities. In addition to the Usui mentioned above and Tibetan Reiki, other systems such as Tera Mai, Sekhem, Karuna Reiki, and Jin Kei Do teach students all of the additional symbols these systems use at the Master level. Each system has its unique attunement process. Thus these are quite intensive and energetically demanding courses to take.
Of course, Reiki Master training should include certain fundamentals and optional components that would be nice to have but aren't necessary. I've compiled a list of things to consider while deciding where to go for training:
Observation and co-teaching of Reiki 1 and 2 classes are also possibilities. However, other Reiki Masters in the West do not use or teach the original Usui technique for attunements, and some do not even teach or attune you to the Usui Master Symbol. It's beautiful healing energy, but it's a little "hotter" than the smooth, flowing Usui Reiki energy because so many Reiki Masters have been taught the "modern" technique in short courses lasting between one and three days.
The kundalini (a tremendous spiritual and sexual force housed in the base chakra, commonly referred to as "serpent power") appears to be stimulated and raised by these symbols, which are magnificent, powerful, and life-enhancing and can build the deepest spiritual links. As a result, some people may experience nausea or uncontrollable shaking for a short period of time due to the sexual energy being activated and broken through. Because of the long years of meditation and other disciplines required in the Buddhist tradition, this should come as no surprise.
