Kathleen Milner initiated the Sai Baba Reiki lineage by receiving the new symbols and attunements. It was taught to Elizabeth Amazon, Isabelle Dussault, and Glenn Derrick by Kathleen. Glenn passed the system on to William Lee Rand, who reworked it and created Karuna Reiki. What they find particularly intriguing is that the Karuna materials they have seen (and they have not seen all of them) make scant or no mention of this prior history, Kathleen Milner, or her contribution to the development of Karuna Reiki. (From what they understand, there was legal action between the two, though they have not been informed of the outcome.) They are currently attempting to locate court records, unless they are sealed, in order to ascertain the nature of the actual litigation and who prevailed.
According to Rand's information, he and other Reiki Masters who had been initiated into these new symbols (Kathleen's system prior to renaming it Tera Mai-Reiki) began experimenting with them. According to him, the masters who possessed these symbols "saw the system's value" and began teaching it as Sai Baba Reiki. It was reported that using the Sai Baba name created legal complications, and thus the name Karuna Reiki was adopted and used. William Rand owns the trademark on the name Karuna Reiki. On Rand's website, at the International Center for Reiki Studies, there is information about the Karuna Reiki System. According to William Rand (via the Rand website), Karuna Reiki originated as follows: "Reiki's Karuna system derives from a variety of sources." Marcy Miller channeled the first three symbols in 1991. Originally, it was believed that the first three symbols came from the Eastern Indian Guru Sai Baba. They were informed, however, that this was not the case after contacting the Sai Baba organization. Following consultation with several prominent clairvoyants, it was determined that these first three symbols originated directly from God. Glenn Derrick passed on these symbols and attunement processes to me in the fall of 1993. The system was extremely effective and powerful. However, there was some confusion about the system's origins at the time. Some believed it originated with Sai Baba, while others claimed it contained the original Usui symbols. Both of these assertions have been debunked by research. Additional research revealed that the attunements were a synthesis of several different attunement processes. While contemplating what to do, they were guided to make several minor adjustments to the attunement processes. Additionally, they were directed to rename the system in a way that more accurately reflected the system's purpose. The majority of people perceive a significant difference between Usui Reiki and Karuna Reiki energies. Once you have both, it's simply a matter of employing whichever system you are guided to employ or believe is most appropriate for the situation. "
According to the preceding paragraph, Kathleen Milner's involvement in the development of the system was minimal or non-existent. They find this strange, given that the root material is clearly hers. A discussion of the term "Reiki" in Karuna Reiki is necessary at this point. Reiki is a generic term that refers to both the "system" of Usui Reiki and the energy. There are now more Reikis than they can count. Usui Reiki and these systems share an intimate and diverse connection. As previously stated, the connection between Usui Reiki and these systems was made through Usui Reiki, Raku Kai Reiki, and Kathleen and Marcy's Channeled Symbols. Attunement procedures are adapted from Reiki attunements. The Breath of Fire technique is derived from Raku Kai's Breath of the Fire Dragon (Rand's variation is called the Violet Breath). Apart from these techniques, Usui Reiki bears little resemblance to it. Usui Reiki is the simplest form of energy healing, which is its greatest strength. There are a few symbols because, quite frankly, there is no need for any more.
According to them, when attuned to the master level of Usui Reiki, one has a complete connection to the source. All of these symbols, as well as any others you can think of, will work. It is a matter of intent and the judicious use of symbols. To use them, you do not even need to be attuned to them. They recommend that you use them if you have any doubts about the veracity of this statement. Additionally, keep in mind that the developers of these systems were not attuned to these symbols. Having said that, one may wonder why additional "Reiki" systems are necessary. That is a valid question that requires an answer. My response is that each "system" represents a slightly different way of conceptualizing, connecting with, and utilizing the divine source's universal life energy. Different systems provide us with a variety of options for utilizing and experiencing this energy. Karuna Ki and Karuna Ki Do are methods for accessing the source's total loving compassion. It is neither superior nor inferior to any other method of accomplishing this. However, it is distinct. "Couldn't I do this with plain old vanilla Usui Reiki?" you may ask. Without a doubt, Concentrate on compassion and love when using or meditating with Usui Reiki, focusing on the Dai KO Mio Symbol. You will understand what I mean if you give it a try.
In summary, we have examined the evolution of this unique system of "Reiki" (and remember, history does not repeat itself; historians simply repeat themselves!). It appears to have evolved from Kathleen Milner's hybrid of Usui Reiki, Raku Kei Reiki, and Seichim, as well as her and Marcy Miller's channeled symbols. William Rand developed Karuna Reiki after learning this system from Glenn Derrick as Sai Baba Reiki. The Karuna Ki System and Karuna Ki Do Meditations have been redesigned and updated to better align with the Loving Compassionate Energy. There are additional meditations, new applications for the symbols, and additional attunements. Karuna Ki and Karuna Ki Do are unique creations that are distinct from Sai Baba Reiki and Karuna Reiki. There are numerous claims these days that certain systems have a "higher frequency," "faster healing," and are "better than Usui Reiki." It should be noted that none of these claims are made by the Karuna Ki System. Karuna Ki is both a spiritual practice and a healing art. There are no other assertions made. Meditation and the practice of any energy system or art increase both your capacity to handle energy and your personal vibration. This includes regular Usui Reiki or personal meditation practice. William Rand owns the trademark for Karuna Reiki. They have been told that the trademark was created to ensure that the attunements and symbols remained consistent, were taught consistently to all students, and did not splinter as Usui Reiki did. According to some, William has recently become quite exclusive in his licensing of the Karuna Reiki system. New Karuna Reiki Registration Requirements can be viewed at New Karuna Reiki Registration. At the moment, it appears as though Karuna Reiki is "splintering" in the same way that Usui Reiki did following Mrs. Takata's death. According to their observations, some practitioners are now openly referring to their practice as "Karuna" (pre-Trademark Style), "Karuna Ki," or simply "Karuna."
Additionally, they have heard a number of masters express their displeasure and shock at the prospect of having to register and adhere to these new practices. They might feel betrayed if they are now told they cannot teach something for which they were certified and compensated in the manner in which they wished. They are not registered with the center and have no affiliation with it. If you wish to become a Center Certified Practitioner of Karuna Reiki, Karuna Ki, or Karuna Ki Do, it may not be for you, and I encourage you to visit the International Center for Reiki Studies website for additional information.
Chanting And Toning With Karuna Reiki
The Karuna Reiki experience taught me that toning or chanting during a Karuna Reiki session causes profound shifts in the healing energy's vibrational frequency. The Mahayana Buddhist tradition of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvhara, who creates the Sound that Illuminates the World, validates this notion.
The Ethics Of Distant Reiki Healing
The Second Degree procedures teach you how to transmit powerful healing to anybody, anywhere, at any time, including the past and future. Using the Distant (Connection) Symbol helps you to construct a bridge between you and the person (or animal) you wish to heal.
Guided Meditation To Help Heal The Shadow Self Can Change Your Life
The shadow self refers to the aspects of ourselves that have been repressed into the unconscious — the aspects of ourselves that we are insecure about, ashamed of, or frustrated with. The shadow self-concept is based on the idea that we metaphorically bury those aspects of our personalities that we fear will not be accepted, accepted, or loved by others; thus, we keep them in the shadows.

Integrative medicine and functional medicine are often used interchangeably, but the terms are actually referring to two different approaches to patient care.
The Karuna Reiki Attunements
A common belief is that compassionate action is captured in this non-traditional form of Reiki. When used in conjunction with Usui Reiki, it has a powerful effect on its own, but even more so.
