The Power Symbol (Focus)
This Sanskrit symbol is composed of three strokes. It is perhaps the most adaptable of the three Second Degree certificates. It can be used alone or in conjunction with one or both of the other symbols, which are typically drawn after them to incorporate Reiki's activating power into their combined goals. Its primary function is to strengthen Reiki's potency and to bring Reiki's energy into the "here and now": into the current moment. There are nine strokes in this symbol, which derives from Sanskrit. I prefer to call this symbol in English, Harmony Symbol because it's more accurate to the symbol's actions than the Western term "Mental and Emotional Symbol," which is too long and clunky.
It can only be used in conjunction with the Power Symbol, as it has more mild and subtle energy than the other symbols, making it less powerful. One of its primary goals is to assist people in regaining their emotional and psychological equilibrium and heighten their receptivity and openness to new experiences. For use with the third and fourth chakras (solar plexus and heart).
The Distant Symbol (Connection)
Japanese Kanji characters make up this symbol, which has 22 strokes. For some, it's the most intriguing of all the symbols, as its application cuts through or goes beyond the boundaries of both time and space. "I merge with God," "The Buddha (or Christ) in me reaches out to the Buddha (or Christ) in you to promote enlightenment and peace," or "The Buddha (or Christ) in me reaches out to the Buddha (or Christ) in you to promote enlightenment and peace" are all translations of the mantra.

Distant Symbol may connect you to any moment in the future or the past, as well as in the present, by using it as a time bridge. It's now or never. As a result, you can use it to send Reiki into the future to a point in time when you know you need it, or to any moment in the past, for example, to cure the mental, emotional, or spiritual impacts of a past event. In the same manner that the Power Symbol and the Harmony Symbol are usually used together, this symbol is rarely used alone.
