If you offered someone a full Reiki treatment, it recommends that you wait until you have completed your 21-day clearing and cleaning process and have done many self-treatments. Once you are ready to begin, remember that anyone you treat must come into a warm, safe and supportive setting. They also require you to behave professionally, even if they know you well. Before you give anybody a Reiki treatment, you must have Reiki preparation on yourself and the location where the therapy is to take place.
Self-preparation should focus on two things: energetic protection and cleaning. As we learned more about Dr. Usui's original procedures and the importance of self-cleansing in Japanese culture over the years, we realized that more preparation is necessary.
The most important thing you can do for yourself and your client's comfort is focus on your cleanliness. After washing your hands (and possibly brushing your teeth), you should also ensure that your clothes are clean and fresh before treating anyone. A person with bad breath is the worst thing you can have peering over your shoulder. Any metal jewelry (save a wedding ring) should also be removed, as it could catch on a client's clothing or otherwise be distracting.
To protect oneself energetically and psychically, you may want to start defending yourself after having a Reiki attunement.
The simplest way is to envision your aura as a Reiki-filled eggshell with a translucent outer edge. Pretend Reiki is coming from your hands, filling the eggshell with healing white light. The Reiki will cleanse and release any bad energy within your aura, and only love, light, and Reiki will be able to enter.
Because your client is in your auric field during the treatment, Reiki protects both you and your client. The client's lesser negative energies will be healed and transformed by the Reiki. You can generate a protective energy field around yourself at any time, not only before receiving a Reiki treatment.
Use a clean, tidy room that has been cleansed with Reiki. Allow Reiki to flow through your hands and out into the room, intending that it cleanse it of any negative energies. Visualize Reiki as a delicate white mist moving around the space, especially corners.
Prepare the treatment couch, clean cushions, a nice blanket, and light some incense or essential oils to provide the area with a pleasant scent. (Some people are sensitive to odors, so check with the client beforehand.) If you want to listen to relaxing music, get the CD or tape ready in the machine and check the volume. Assure that the room is at the proper temperature and that no interruptions from phones, children, dogs, or other sources exist.
Many people are frightened before their first Reiki treatment (and you may be too), so always talk to them about Reiki and what to expect throughout the session, including where you will be placing your hands. Tell them you won't be touching any "personal" places like genitals or women's breasts. People generally find it comforting to know they can remain completely clothed except for removing their shoes.
Describe any sensations they may have, such as warmth, heat, or tingling where your hands are put or energy flowing throughout their body. Explain that they will likely become quite comfortable but may also become emotional, so tell them that it is perfectly fine to laugh or cry, and they need not be embarrassed.
Explain why they've come for treatment and allow them to ask questions. Remind them that they don't need to do anything deliberately to receive Reiki, other than being open to it.
People receiving Reiki should remove their shoes, watches, glasses, and metal jewelry (but not their wedding rings), but otherwise should remain completely clothed. To begin the therapy, the client should be lying on their back with a pillow under their head and another under their legs. When they sleep on their backs, transfer the cushion from under their knees to under their ankles to relieve the pressure on their backs.
A nice blanket over the client can help them relax and feel nurtured, as well as keep them warm when they are lying still or when negative energy is being expelled throughout the treatment. You and your client should enjoy the treatment, so make sure you are both comfortable, the therapy couch is at a good height for you, and the client is warm enough.
If a client is first hesitant, continue to answer in as gentle and supportive a manner as you can. However, by the third-hand position (or even earlier), their speech becomes slurred, and they fall quiet, typically passing off to sleep. Playing soothing music—classical or "New Age"—often helps individuals relax, but you should check with your client.
Chanting And Toning With Karuna Reiki
The Karuna Reiki experience taught me that toning or chanting during a Karuna Reiki session causes profound shifts in the healing energy's vibrational frequency. The Mahayana Buddhist tradition of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvhara, who creates the Sound that Illuminates the World, validates this notion.
The Ethics Of Distant Reiki Healing
The Second Degree procedures teach you how to transmit powerful healing to anybody, anywhere, at any time, including the past and future. Using the Distant (Connection) Symbol helps you to construct a bridge between you and the person (or animal) you wish to heal.
Guided Meditation To Help Heal The Shadow Self Can Change Your Life
The shadow self refers to the aspects of ourselves that have been repressed into the unconscious — the aspects of ourselves that we are insecure about, ashamed of, or frustrated with. The shadow self-concept is based on the idea that we metaphorically bury those aspects of our personalities that we fear will not be accepted, accepted, or loved by others; thus, we keep them in the shadows.
How To Build A Successful Reiki Practice - FAQs

Integrative And Functional Medicine —Personalized Care For The 21st Century
The goal of integrative and functional medicine is to get to the root cause of health problems and treat the whole person with a combination of approaches—optimizing health for those who have it and restoring health for those who have lost it. Integrative medicine and functional medicine are often used interchangeably, but the terms are actually referring to two different approaches to patient care.
The Karuna Reiki Attunements
A common belief is that compassionate action is captured in this non-traditional form of Reiki. When used in conjunction with Usui Reiki, it has a powerful effect on its own, but even more so.
Karuna Master Symbols and Their Uses
Other healing systems incorporate the Karuna Reiki Master symbols. For instance, The International Center for Reiki Training incorporates the Usui Dai Ko Myo, Tibetan Dai Ko Mio, and Tibetan Fire Serpent into our Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master Training.
Kuan Yin - The Goddess Of Mercy
Kuan Yin is an example of an enlightened being. Bodhisattva, or enlightened being, guards the earth. The Chinese deity Kuan Yin is revered as a symbol of compassion and love.
Possible Side Effects Of A Karuna Reiki Attunement
Becoming a Reiki practitioner with the ability to heal oneself and others is a beautiful path that allows you to make a difference in the world. While it is exciting to receive an attunement in order to increase your frequency and connection to the universal life force energy, these attunements come at a cost.
The Traditional Karuna Reiki Attunements
Karuna is typically only taught to Usui Reiki Master practitioners. There are four levels of Karuna instruction. There are four levels of mastery in this system: two for practitioners and two for masters.
Original Karuna Attunements - The Sai Baba Reiki Attunements
For those wishing to view the original Sai Baba attunement process in order to compare it to later attunements, these are included for informational purposes only. You will notice a resemblance between these and the attunements developed later.
