What Is Reiji-Ho, And How To Do It?
In Japan, they do not use the pattern of 12 or more hand positions taught in the West. Students are encouraged to develop their sensitivity and intuition through this, allowing them to intuitively place their hands where they sense the greatest need for Reiki.
The meaning of the word Reiji-ho:
Rei: energy, spirit, soul
Ji: show, indicate, point out, express, display
Ho: treatment, method, way
- Take a seat or stand next to the receiver.
- Spend a few seconds centering yourself (hands in Gassho) and concentrating on your Tan-dien, letting your breathing to become deep and steady, then intent to activate your intuitive ability by quietly saying to yourself, "I begin Reiji now."
- Sit or stand comfortably with your hands on your lap or loosely by your side, palms upward. Allow your body to totally relax, releasing any tensions or fears, and gently assist your client in doing the same. Invoke Reiki silently to infuse you and your client with healing energy. Consider Reiki pouring into you through your crown chakra, filling your entire body with healing energy, and then sensing it flowing out of your hands into the energy field of your client, healing both of you on all levels. When you feel energized by Reiki and prepared to begin, proceed to the following step.
- While maintaining the Gassho stance, raise your hands to your brow (third eye) chakra and quietly ask Reiki to guide your hands to any areas on the recipient's body that require healing energy. Wait until you feel a strong impulse to move your hands, as if they were being pulled by a magnet, trusting Reiki to direct them. Place your hands in whichever position they are pulled to, palms towards the body or slightly above (2–5 cm [1–2 in]), and allow Reiki to flow until the region is rebalanced. When you sense that the Reiki has ceased, you will be led to the next suitable location, until all of the body's portions that need Reiki have been balanced. With further practice, you will see that Reiki intuitively indicates what to treat and for how long, and this intuition can be received kinesthetically (via feelings or sensations) or consciously (thoughts, images, insights or intuitions).
- Once the Reiki has ceased to flow and you are no longer being led to specific areas of your client's body, you will notice that your hands automatically return to their regular place beside your body or on your knees if you are seated.
- Gassho—express gratitude for the Reiki and conclude with a respectful bow.
This method improves relaxation, sharpens your intuition, and enables Reiki to guide your hands to treatment placed on the body. By practicing this method, you may broaden and strengthen your awareness of subtle energies.
