If you are unable to agree on a specific time, or if you have another commitment at the time that is convenient for a potential recipient. You can program distant Reiki treatment to go to them either at a specific time agreed upon between you or while they are asleep, similar to setting a video recorder to record a television program at a particular time.

To do this, follow the instructions below:

• Prepare to do the treatment. You should sit somewhere comfortable and peaceful where you will not be disturbed—turn off the phone, ask your family to leave you alone for a half-hour, and so on. If you want, you can light some incense or burn some aromatherapy oil while listening to soft music in the background. Spend a few minutes meditating—the Hatsurei-ho is a fantastic technique to prepare because it cleanses your energy field.
• Consider the person you want to send the Distant Reiki treatment to. You can use a photograph, write their name and address on paper, or simply visualize them. You can also employ a "correspondence"—as defined above. You can use it to represent the person. Assume that whatever you're using as correspondence is the person, and then spend a few moments deciding which component symbolizes their head, which part represents their body, legs, and so on.
• Draw the Distant Symbol over the photograph, paper, or body of the correspondence, and speak its mantra three times, the person's name three times, and their location once (either their full address or the town, area, or nation they are in if you don't know exactly where they are). Consider the Distant Symbol to be a massive bridge between you and the individual to whom you are sending a distant therapy.
• Then, draw the Power Symbol over the photograph, paper, or body of the correspondence three times, recite its mantra three times, the person's name once, and their location once. Imagine a big Power Symbol over the person's body, then descend. The symbol encompasses the individual, allowing its healing energy to flow throughout the therapy.
• Then add, "This Reiki is being sent with love and light for the highest and greatest good." (You may also mention any specific parts of the body, illnesses, or situations that you know require special attention and request healing if this is possible at this time, but it will be the person's Higher Self who decides how to use the energy, so try not to have specific expectations—that is, it is important to remove our ego from the healing process.)
• Then declare, "This Reiki is to be received by (name of person) at (agreed-upon time), or "while they sleep tonight," or even "when it will be most useful." You may also use the same technique to pre-program a mental/emotional remote treatment.

Programing For Repeat-Healing Treatments

It would take you about 15 to 20 minutes per day to send a large number of treatments—say, for example, someone needs 21 consecutive treatments to help with a chronic or life-threatening condition—to do so. It is possible that you will not be able to perform the distant treatments on time if you must treat other people every day or if you must attend to important commitments that require your full attention.

"Programming" treatment can be done in the same way a video recorder can be programmed to record the same show every day at the same time, so that you don't have to sit in front of it every day. Remember, the Distant Symbol travels through time and space, so this isn't a problem.

Follow the directions in the previous sections for either the standard or mental/emotional distant treatment, but when you get to step 5, add the following instruction:

• And say 'This Reiki will be given to (name of person) at the agreed upon time or while they are asleep (today or tonight) and for the following six days (or nights)." If the same conditions persist after a week, you can either resume the daily distant treatment or reprogram the treatment for another seven days.

If someone is critically ill, unconscious, or in some other life-threatening situation, it is a good idea to set up a treatment to be administered every hour or every two hours to them.

• This would be accomplished by following either of the distant treatment instructions up to number 5, and then saying, "Let a full Reiki treatment flow to (name of person) every hour (or every two hours) for the next 48 hours."

Again, after two days, you can evaluate the situation and determine whether you need to continue programming in the same manner or reduce the number of treatments, and so forth.
