The flow of Reiki strengthens over time so that within six to eight weeks of being initiated into Reiki, you are experiencing the entire flow of energy. The more you use it, the better it flows, and once attuned, you can use it for the rest of your life. It never wears off or runs out, and you can never lose the ability to channel it.

If you don't use Reiki for a long time, you may think it's not flowing because you don't feel it in your hands. The whole flow is still there—you just need to do some self-cleansing and practice to bring it back. If you choose to reattune, it will not harm you and increase the amount of Reiki you can channel.

With each level of attunement (Reiki 1, 2, or 3), you can access a higher, wider channel of Reiki healing energy and your energy body's vibration increases. Some people report an immediate shift in awareness, describing it as akin to rebirth, with heightened senses of color, smell, and sound. Others say a brief buzzing or heightened sensitivity in the crown chakra, as well as floating or light-headedness. These are all normal reactions. While experiencing little is common, it does not mean the attunement has failed.

But Reiki does not always flow through you. Putting out your hand to pick up a cup of tea does not activate Reiki! Your intention to use Reiki sets it in motion. After a while, you may notice that Reiki "switches on" without your active intention. Still, if you have been using Reiki on yourself and others frequently, your unspoken intention is to use Reiki whenever it is needed. Those who truly need it will know you are a Reiki channel and ask for it. Because you subconsciously gave permission, the Reiki will simply respond. You have chosen to channel Reiki.

Reiki is not pushed. The recipient pulls it. No one can be forced to heal. This does not have to be a conscious process for the Practitioner or the recipient because the Higher Self controls it. So the Reiki recipient doesn't need to do anything or think about anything. It helps if the recipient is willing to receive the energy, but it is not required. Reiki will flow into animals who are unaware of it.
